This is an offshoot from a main pipe where the long-ago-forgotten channel of Pond Creek once ran. As mentioned in my post, "Gloomy Tunnels Under Guelph", The creek was buried over during urban expansion and now it passes under the city along tunnels that are far from the standard concrete tubes that are now installed.
This is my sister Melissa, she is also a "drainer" and enjoys these explorations just as I do. Here she leans against a cast iron pipe, likely installed somewhere in excess of a century ago. This section of the tunnel is not well travelled by the raccoons but up ahead the water gets deeper and I think a muskrat must live in one of the muddy pools. It splashed as I approached but I was unable to get a close look. I suspect this part of the tunnel is beneath the railway tracks that run through the centre of town.
