I Salute You

Hey there other cavers in Ontario
It’s odd how you feel this kinship for other cavers and its really exciting when you see one. My wife and I went down to IKEA in Hamilton today to get some bookshelves for all the books my dad just gave me. We took a different route home as the 403 is such a dismal drive. I pointed Maggie up along “Snake Road and when we got to the top of the Escarpment we turned left. The houses were pretty nice along there and what a view!
Anyway, I cant remember the name of the town but just before I got to Clappisons Corners I saw this car turning past me with a yellow and black caver symbol on it. “Look, Look, there is another caver” I shouted to Maggie. Well I dont know of any cavers who live up there but to me it was quite exciting. Maggie seemed surprised. “What , you honk and wave to other cavers? Is that normal?”
Well the question is why not? I would wave at other cavers, there are so few of us in Ontario. Is that wierd or is my wife just really unfriendly?
Other Cavers - this lady was on one of the trips I led two years ago. It was a trip to one of my favorite Ontario caving locations.

i wave at fellow bat sticker people and i have heard some amazing stories of long caving friendships from doing so.heck greg camped and caved with bill stone and others due to approaching a yellow sticker adorned car.when i was in scuba the red and white flag sticker elicited the same response.i am sure many micro genres have this experience
btw the town you went through is waterdown
Thanks PFH, I remembered the name of the town after I had done the post. I recall at some time in the past you were shocked to learn that I did not know where Waterdown was. Any idea who the cavers were? BTW, I am dropping the motherinlaw up in Belleville today, wonder if I can side track while I am there.
I enjoyed reading about the bat sticker. I have one on my car and that has happened to me numerous times here in Colorado.

Wow, a fellow caver
I am a Canadian girl just back from life in the UK. Great caving there! But now that I am home I have no idea where to get to get my caving fix
Was hoping you could contact me and we could talk about what is around Ontario for the avid caver
Thanks!
