As you can see, my book is called “Rockwatching ; Adventures Above and Below Ontario. That is me up in the top right corner in a pothole in the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. I would be interested to know if anyone recognizes those other four locations on the cover.
I have always loved the underground and over the last 20 or so years while I have lived in Ontario the province’s rock has become a passion of mine. Indeed, it is the driving force behind my blog.
I am especially interested in the exploration of the rock, it is something that can be done on a general level by weekend hikers, climbers and cavers. For those who are willing to push the boundaries you can travel to places that no human being has ever seen before. I do this on occasion, it is the pinnacle of cave exploration, to find virgin passage. You can be at the forefront of cutting edge exploration if you so choose. At this time limestone exploration in the province has amazing new successes on a monthly basis. By my book you can see the environment for yourself and come to know some of its leading characters.
Southern Ontario has virgin cave and if you learn to recognize the landscape for what it is you can see those tunnels for yourself. My book covers a series of interpretive hikes where the explorer is led through some of the most fantastic scenery in Ontario. It is a travel guide that exposes a segment of the provinces sub-culture that has existed up until now as largely unknown. check my book out at your local bookstore or any of about 200 on-line merchants. I know you will find it fascinating.
