Sarapique River

The water is this sort of turbid, glassy green colour, and the current is surprisingly strong. In several places along the shore children play in the water, large alligators dozing nearby seemingly oblivious to the fun.
When the motor stalled and our boat began drifting with the current I initially felt a little alarmed. I can imagine the scene with some 20 tourists scrambling for shore as the wildlife picks us off. Passing these guys peacefully fishing helped reestablish mental balance. They are either real stupid or real brave. I have the impression that life in the jungle is cheap. The guide says that the alligators only eat dogs, I wonder if he is just giving us a filtered version of reality. How do they distinguish between a small child and a dog?
Several men associated with the tour lounge around the dormant motor, chattering gaily in the local lingo. Just past the “porno disco” (brothel I think)it roars to life again.
