This is taken looking down from the Rio Tarcoles Bridge. Like waterlogged driftwood the crocodiles lie strewn on the muddy banks, waiting and hopeing that we will come down for a closer look. Some approach 20 feet in length; they are far larger than the smaller Costa Rican Cayman species. I look at the thick reeds along the river bank and wonder what might hide within.
We had picked up a case of beer for the trip to Manuel Antonio, Renaldo our guide had already had several cans by 9 that morning. Our cab driver had asked to bring him along as he hardly spoke english and felt we would benefit from his company. “You want some beer you bad boys” Renaldo, shouts at a yawning monster. Apparently there is one crocodile that is far larger than the rest and the locals call him “Tyson”.
